Stephanie Atkins
Candidate for New Brunswick Executive Board
Stephanie Atkins
I am asking for your support for my candidacy for the URA Executive Board. I have a BA in Economics and am currently pursuing my MA in Labor and Employment Relations. I began working for the University this year on two grant-funded projects at the School of Management and Labor Relations: the Occupational Safety and Health Education Project (OSHEP), which creates safety and health curricula for occupational sectors, and NJ PLACE which assists non-traditional students create an easier path to a college education. I have been active in the union as a steward, as well as serving on the Health and Safety Committee which was successful in obtaining the University’s Emergency Action Plan. We are currently working on a proposal to address the H1N1 pandemic.

I believe in social justice and equality and that change begins with understanding and a strong voice. URA is diverse and made up of people from many backgrounds, traditions, and cultures, who share similar concerns regarding our workplace. We also have over 300 job titles in our unit. For these reasons I think that it is important to get out and talk to our members about any issues they may be having in their department, thoughts they may have about the University, and ideas for the union.

If elected I will represent our members in a productive manner and take all opportunities to advocate for staff. I welcome any comments or suggestions. Feel free to email me at any time. Thank you for your consideration as a candidate.
