What experience do you have with URA-AFT?
As an original member of the organizing effort that became URA, I have been dedicated to this union from the very beginning.
What goals would you like to accomplish in the next three years?
Bring management to the table for a fair settlement to the salary deferral/job security issue. Advocate for our members' rights in the workplace. Build our dues paying membership. Educate and develop our stewards network. Leverage expertise of our membership to increase Rutgers accountability . Live within our financial means. Build our political power. Build our alliances in the labor movement. Align our priorities with the needs of our membership keeping in mind our huge diversity of jobs and working conditions, locations, age, family status, ethnicity etc. Prepare for and bargain our second contract. Make Rutgers a great place to work.
What skills or qualifications do you bring to the position?
I am committed to: maintain constant consultation with members across the state at meetings, by email, teleconferences and one-to-one visits. Build my knowledge of labor and workplace issues through continuous professional development. Build the URA leadership team. My two years of experience as URA President, previous experience as union member, steward and officer and my Bachelors and Masters degrees in Labor Studies are assets I use every day in this new and challenging role.
